Case sealing selection
Reliable case sealing begins with a consistently formed and filled carton, then matches the closing method to the box, contents and required finished result.
Board quality, flap condition, dimensions, weight and variation affect how the case can be guided, compressed and closed.
Uniform cases from an upstream packer are different from mixed or manually packed cases. Operator loading, flap folding and presentation must be defined.
State the closure method, tape or adhesive specification where relevant, seal position and how an acceptable dispatch case will be checked.
A case sealer receives a formed and packed carton, controls its position, manages the flaps where applicable and applies the selected closure. Consistent presentation reduces the adjustments and manual intervention required. Variable or damaged cases can affect tracking and seal quality.
The infeed should allow enough space for manual or automatic packing and for the case to reach the sealer squarely. The discharge should support coding, weighing, labelling, pallet handling or other dispatch operations where these are required. Case size changes and the time needed to adjust guides and applicators should be part of the operating plan.
Acceptance checks should reflect the real contents and distribution route. Empty cases alone may not show bowing, flap pressure or weight-related tracking issues, so representative packed cases are more useful for a final review.
Manual taping, semi-automatic sealing, random-size equipment or another carton-closing method may be appropriate depending on volume, case variation and operator involvement. A consistent single-size case process should not be assumed when mixed dispatch work is required.

Representative packed cases provide a more useful basis than nominal dimensions alone.
Provide case dimensions, board and flap style, packed weight, closure material, size range, presentation method and the required finished seal.
Uniform work uses repeated case dimensions between adjustments. Random-size work needs an arrangement capable of responding to changing case sizes, which changes the handling and control requirement.

Provide the case range, board condition, flap arrangement, fill condition and acceptable finished result. Variable or damaged cases can affect squaring, flap folding and tape or adhesive contact even when nominal dimensions are unchanged.

A case sealer should be trialled with filled cases because load mass, internal fit, bulging, flap position and board deformation can differ from an empty case. Use the real packing pattern and representative board condition when evaluating transfer, compression and seal result.
A failed case seal can be detected only when the unacceptable condition is defined and a sensor or inspection method can distinguish it reliably. Presence of tape or adhesive does not always prove flap engagement or bond quality, so select the check around the actual failure mode.
