Installation planning guide
Confirm access, layout, services, safety boundaries and production interfaces before machinery arrives so installation is not delayed by avoidable site constraints.
Before delivery
Site preparation starts at the delivery point. Record vehicle access, unloading arrangements, doors, corridors, lifts, changes of level, overhead restrictions and the final route into production. Compare those constraints with the delivered machine sections, handling method and assembly sequence.
At the operating position, show machine envelopes, guard and door movements, control panels, operator stations, product replenishment, change-part handling and maintenance access. The remaining aisle must still work when guards or access panels are open.
Final utility and foundation requirements must come from the selected equipment. This guide helps collect site information; it does not replace the supplier's drawings, a competent electrical or mechanical assessment, or the site's machinery risk assessment.

The combined installation must be considered in its final context, including retained machinery, pedestrian routes, access points, material handling and maintenance tasks. The UK Health and Safety Executive explains that work equipment should be suitable, maintained and accompanied by appropriate safety measures such as guarding, controls, emergency stops and isolation. Do not create access by bypassing guards or moving safety devices after delivery. Changes to the line or retained equipment should be reviewed through the project's design, controls and risk-assessment process.
Connect the final site plan to the line integration guide and the commissioning and acceptance plan.
Agree when the area becomes available, which existing services or conveyors must be isolated, and when production can resume. If installation occurs in an operating facility, define segregation, contractor access, material routes, housekeeping and the process for handing the area back between shifts or work stages.
Identify site permits and competent-person checks needed for lifting, electrical work, compressed air, hot work, work at height or modifications to existing machinery where applicable. The exact controls depend on the site and task; they should be agreed before contractors and equipment arrive.
Separate delivery, positioning, mechanical assembly, service connection, controls integration, dry checks, product setup, commissioning and acceptance. Each stage should have a release condition so later work does not begin with incomplete services or unapproved interfaces.
Reserve production materials and people for setup. Commissioning can be delayed when final labels, closures, product or trained operators are not available. Link the material schedule to the FAT record so site testing uses the intended revision.

Send the product, container, closure, label or outer-pack samples that represent normal and difficult production. Include the required task, current process, intended output, available space and any existing equipment that must remain.
Site questions
Access, utilities, layout, safety and production interfaces should be confirmed before delivery.
A supplier normally needs delivery access, route and lifting constraints, final footprint and working space, floor condition, line direction, working heights, electrical and pneumatic availability, product supply, drainage or extraction where relevant, network or data interfaces, existing machinery details and the site's safety requirements.
Provide dimensions and photographs together; neither alone reliably shows every obstruction or access risk.
A site survey is useful when access is restricted, equipment must connect to an existing line, utilities or guarding boundaries are uncertain, operator routes are tight, or the installation depends on building features that drawings do not fully capture. It does not replace accurate product and pack information.
Use the survey to close physical and interface questions, then record the agreed assumptions in the project brief and layout.
Responsibilities depend on the supply and installation scope, but the operating business must ensure work equipment is suitable, maintained and used safely, with a site-specific assessment and competent involvement. Supplier declarations or guards do not remove the need to assess the installed process, interfaces and operating method.

Material and access flows
A machinery layout is incomplete until normal replenishment, rejected product, maintenance and format change can occur around it.
Component feeders need safe loading height, replenishment access and space for bulk containers. The feeding guide helps define hopper autonomy, queue control and operator interaction.
Use scaled zones for operators, guarding, maintenance, change-part trolleys, sample collection and reject removal. For compact systems, review the actual perimeter access rather than relying on the central frame dimension.
Component replenishment affects layout because operators need safe access and enough space to load containers, closures, labels and cases without obstructing guards, controls or material flow. The planned loading method and container size should be shown on the layout, not left for commissioning.
A packaging machinery layout should show the access needed to open guards, remove assemblies, clean product-contact parts and reach service points. A machine can fit geometrically while remaining impractical to maintain. Review access with the actual surrounding walls, columns and equipment.
