Provide product at the intended operating temperature and describe settling, thixotropy, particles or the effect of agitation. Generic viscosity labels are not enough for final selection.

Oils, greases, adhesives and sealants can create different product-supply, dosing, nozzle, cleanup and pack-handling demands.

Provide the actual product at operating temperature and describe whether it drips, strings, traps air, settles or changes with shear or time. Product-contact materials and cleaning or purge methods must be confirmed for the specific formulation.

The filled pack may be heavier or more sensitive to neck contamination than an empty sample suggests. Include closures, plugs, spouts and labels in the trial sequence so the finished pack, not only the dose, can be assessed.

What causes stringing at a filling nozzle?

Stringing occurs when the product forms a filament during cutoff or nozzle withdrawal, influenced by rheology, temperature, nozzle geometry, fill speed and movement. Trial the actual product and observe the cutoff sequence before selecting a mechanical or timing response.

Can a lubricant oil and an adhesive share one filling machine?

A lubricant oil and an adhesive may share a machine only when the dosing principle, product-contact components, supply, nozzle, cleaning and operating range suit both applications. The difference in flow and cleanup can make separate product paths or dedicated equipment more practical, so confirm by engineering review and trials.

Thick and stringing products

Use viscous-product trials to define adhesive and lubricant filling.

Adhesives, greases and thick lubricants should be reviewed through the viscous and paste filling route when product feed, temperature, stringing, shut-off or cleaning differs from a free-flowing liquid. The actual product behaviour determines the pump, piston, valve and nozzle questions.

Representative trials should include the most difficult viscosity, any particulates or fibres, normal fill temperature and the final container opening. The project boundary should state how product is transferred from the source vessel, whether heating or agitation is needed and how retained material is safely removed between batches.
